AeroSpec’s Robotic Systems Engineer is responsible for the specification, analysis, integration, and programming of a wide variety of Robotic systems for the effective operation of advanced automation and mechatronic equipment.  This position reports directly to our Systems Engineering Manager and works closely with Project Managers on projects ranging from stand along work cells to large scale, assembly line integrations.

Essential Functions:
  • Specify and integrate multi-axes robotic systems into a variety of assembly, test, and facility applications
  • Participate in equipment conceptual development and carefully balance system specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
  • Develop a performance and graphical simulation, such as Fanuc ROBOGUIDE and DENSO Wincaps to define all critical elements involved in robot integration. Be able to defend the concept and robot selection to client SMEs.
  • Write effective application code for robot motion control and interfacing with field devices and subsystems.
  • Integrate with machine vision and 3D scanners for adaptive movements.      
  • Interface with AeroSpec’s mechanical engineering team on various requirements; attend mechanical design reviews, collaborate on the mechanical requirements for robot integration.
  • Create experiments (DOE’s) to validate robot performance and capability for critical applications.
  • Support advanced robotic integrations such as Collaborative Robots and High Precision Hexapod Systems.
  • Provide occasional project management and support for robotic integration into existing and legacy systems.  
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or other relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience specifying, designing, programming, and commissioning robotic systems for industrial applications.
  • Highly proficient in robot programming and simulation software including Fanuc ROBOGUIDE and DENSO Wincaps.
  • Experience with common field devices commonly used in automation such as conveyors, laser systems, machine vision systems, indexers, pick and places, etc.   
  • Working knowledge of industry standards (UL508A, NFPA79, IEC, NEC).
  • General experience with electrical and automation components from manufacturers such as Rockwell Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Phoenix Contact, Cognex, Square D, Festo, SMC, Wiedmueller, Wago, Hoffman, etc.
  • Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical design documents
 Desirable Additional Qualifications:
  • Background in motion control using industrial drives, servomotors, stepper motors, linear motors, etc. Understanding of machine vision functionality including programming software.
  • Expertise in PLC and PC programming for industrial automation control systems.
  • Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley software for PLC and servo control.
  • Experienced with networking industrial automation systems and subsystems.
  • Knowledge with programming languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, HTML, ROS
  • Experience with SolidWorks Mechanical or AutoCAD as used in electrical applications.
  • Background in Project Management of Robotic Systems. This includes, proposals, accountability for schedules and budgets, client interface and management, reports, etc.
  • Experience in Agile Project Management such a Scrum Master, SME, Project Owner, etc.
